Local Author

Reliving Childhood
in the 1960's:

Local author Karen Gennari will host a discussion of her novel The Crab Hollow Chronicles at the Bethel Park Library on October 15 at 7pm.  The Crab Hollow Chronicles is a fictitious memoir based on Karen’s experiences growing up in a neighborhood full of boys in 1961/62.  Targeting baby boomers, it includes the headlines, people, products, sports, and music of the early 1960’s as well as references to the Pittsburgh area.  In addition to discussing her book and childhood of that time period, her program will also consist of photos and a large display of 1950’s and 60’s memorabilia, including a Lionel train, a Howdy Doody doll, Charles Chips can, a collection of gum wrappers, original Pittsburgh Press articles on the assassinations of John and Robert Kennedy, and much more.

About Karen Gennari:

As a class assignment in seventh grade, Karen wrote an autobiography, which she still possesses today.  The last line reads, “When I grow up, I want to be an English teacher,” and that is exactly what she did. She has written articles for The Sixties in America and The Seventies in America, published by Salem Press, but The Crab Hollow Chronicles is her first foray into full-length fiction writing.  Now retired, Karen is a member of the 75-voice South Hills Chorale. She lives in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, with her husband Frank and travels to Houston and San Jose to visit her two children and three grandchildren.
